The salary is the part everyone sees. In France it is rarely the largest part. This page converts the salaries published by INSEE into the full employer cost, using the official URSSAF calculation engine — the same one the tax authorities use. The scale changes every January; the figures below follow it on their own.
From net salary to full employer cost
| Profile | Net / month | Gross / month | Employer cost / month | Employer cost / year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All private-sector managers and professionals | €4,629 | €5,867 | €8,476 | €101,712 |

The gap between what the employee receives and what the company pays is the social-contribution system: health, pensions, unemployment insurance, family benefits. It is neither a hidden charge nor a penalty on foreign companies — every French employer pays it. But it is the single most common reason a first French budget turns out to be wrong.
And this is only the payroll
These figures cover the employment contract alone. They do not include a company car, travel, office space, equipment, recruitment fees, or the months of salary paid before the first order is signed — nor the cost of a hire who does not work out, which in France is not quickly undone. That full picture is what a shared Country Manager is designed to avoid.
